The Boomerang Massage by Addaday does a few things better than any other massage tool I’ve come across. On top of raising the bar for hamstring massage, most muscles will respond well to the multiple roller balls gliding over a general tightness.
Please note the Boomerang really helps to loosen, relax and warm up muscles. While you could use it for deeper trigger point work, that’s not it’s primary focus, though undoubtedly a bonus feature.
Best Uses For the Boomerang
- The Boomerang works best (in my experience) on for the hamstrings. It’s also fantastic for the calves, glutes and sometimes the lower back, depending on how you want to stretch it.
- You’ll find it great to carry in a gym bag because it folds well. (A stick massager or different-sized massage balls fit, too)
- Incredibly versatile, more than most other massage rollers. But you’ll probably still want a foam roller and a foot massager to target certain muscle groups.
- Ideally, the Boomerang would be 1 of 4 massage tools. For me, I’d have a foam roller (like the TriggerPoint one), a foot massage ball (MobiPoint or FootRubz), the Boomerang and the Quadballer Roller. Of course, everyone has specific needs and goals, so depends on the individual.

Pros
- Amazing for Hamstrings
- Very good for glutes, calves, lower back and groin muscles
- Also suitable for shoulders, neck, quads
- I like this better than the stick massagers, but that’s a personal preference.

Cons
- You’ll probably still want another type of massage roller for many muscles. Even though the Boomerang performs well, I usually want to use a foam roller on the back and legs. But between the foam roller and the Boomerang, you’ll get a great massage that neither could give individually.
- While some people will love the Boomerang, some folks might not; you might want to check the return policy if ordering online. With a “normal” foam roller, you could probably try it out somewhere before buying. The Boomerang might prove a little harder to find in stores so consider checking if you can return the Boomerang.

Leg Massage
In my opinion, the Boomerang functions best when massaging the legs, especially for the hamstring muscles. It feels like something like a simultaneous mixture of a tapotement (i.e. Karate Chop), vibration and shaking massage techniques. Some people might not like using the Boomerang on their hamstrings since it works differently than most massage rollers.
In general, it doesn’t target trigger points nor does deeper massage. If you want, you can utilize one of the nubs to get a particular spot.
You’ll probably want to massage the legs sitting down, or in another position where the muscle isn’t activated (in use). Sometimes, I’ll balance on the other leg.
You can also use the Addaday massager on the quad muscle, but it’s not on the same level as the hammies. I usually massage the quads while sitting or standing up. If you’re standing up, then you need to take some weight off of the quad for the massager to help the muscle.
Besides the hamstring and quads, the Boomerang also can target (quite well) the calves and the groin muscles. With both the calves and groin, the roller functions best while sitting down. After 10-20 seconds your calves and groin will feel warmed up (the groin muscles are basically the muscles of the inner thigh).

Back Massage
While you could potentially target specific knots in the lower back, the Boomerang works best by rolling quickly over the muscles to lightly stretch and warm them up. Probably the way that the Boomerang most helps the lower back is to hit the related hip and glute muscles which may provide a positive effect on the lower back in some cases.
If you want to massage the upper back and shoulders, it performs decently. Some people may like using it to roll on the shoulders, but I’m too skinny/boney there, so it ends up feeling a little uncomfortable. I would prefer a tennis ball against a ball or squishier foam roller for my upper back.
Glute Massage
I like using the Boomerang to massage the glutes and hips. Like I said before, I’ll usually use the Addaday Boomerang when I want to warm-up and loosen my hamstrings. After the hamstrings, a minutes on the glutes usually aids in the general warmup.
In terms of glutes, the roller achieves significant results. Though it doesn’t perform as well as with the hamstrings, it’s a welcome addition to any good leg warm-up.

Conclusion
A high-quality massage roller, in the motivated hands, can really improve a person’s general athletic performance.
The Boomerang certain falls within the “high-quality massage roller” category. Like Trigger Points’ products, all of AddADay’s offerings could be purchased sight-unseen with generally positive results. In my view, the Boomerang fulfills and exceeds any reasonable expectations of what a massage roller can do to help an individual with muscle warm-up, recovery and relaxation.
Should you buy an Addaday Boomerang? I can’t speak to your specific situation, but I would strongly recommend at least trying it out to see what you think.
Of course, I’d like to stress the importance of learning to use tools well. After finding good tools, proper understanding of implementation can truly make a world of difference.
Best wishes and hope you find the right massage tools to keep your muscles strong, agile, fast and healthy!
